Tonight the Buffalo Bills open their preseason schedule, taking on Donovan McNabb and the Washington Redskins at 7:30 pm EST. The game will showcase the Bills competition across the board, from quarterback, to wide receiver, to offensive line, and the front seven.

This slideshow will highlight the five aspects of Buffalo’s game that you should keep an eye on as a preview to the season.

The initial press conference that announced C.J. Spiller was going to be part of the Buffalo Bills organization was a noteworthy event for a number of reasons.

It was a curious selection in light of the Bills’ strength at running back and lack of strength at quarterback and at tackle. Yet, Buddy Nix’s first selection as the new general manager was the star running back from Clemson.

As Bills’ fans experienced the year before, first round selections who hold out and miss considerable time can negatively impact the end result of their rookie campaign.

So, how long will C.J. Spiller hold out? What are the reasons for him to continue holding out? What will it take for the Bills to find a happy medium with Spiller’s representatives and bring him to training camp?

This slideshow will attempt to answer all of those issues and more.

The 2010-2011 season will be one of new beginnings for the Buffalo Bills—a new GM in Buddy Nix, a new head coach in Chan Gailey, and a completely revamped 3-4 defensive scheme.

The 2009 Draft was a successful one, and the Bills added quality players that all proved they are worthy of being mentioned in the Buffalo Bills future plans.

Second round pick Jairus Byrd, out of Oregon, came in second place for the AP Defensive Rookie of the Year award after taking the league by surprise and intercepting nine passes.

Both guards Andy Levitre and Eric Wood found their way to the starting lineup, as did fourth round tight end, Shawn Nelson.

The Bills built on top of their 2009 draft success by filling out the positions needed for the transition to the 3-4 defense that new defensive coordinator George Edwards is installing this offseason.

The Bills now have a lot of quality young talent on their roster, and this slideshow overviews the 10 players that are the future of the team.

With the Madden 2011 player ratings being released, Bills’ fans and Madden enthusiasts alike are probably less than thrilled that their highest rated player is—drumroll please—punter Brian Moorman (he also happens to be the only player on the roster rated 90 or higher).

While Buffalo certainly is not a powerhouse of Madden studs, some of these ratings just flat-out don’t make sense.

I’ll break down what I think are the top five most disappointing ratings for the Bills in the upcoming Madden ’11 video game.

As we get closer and closer to training camp, position battles are starting to heat up.

Some positional competitions to keep your eye on as the Bills head to St. John Fisher this summer will be at the linebacker spots; not only for starting gigs, but primary backup jobs as well.

With the installation of the new 3-4 defense, the look of Buffalo’s linebacking corps has changed drastically, and how it will play out still remains to be seen.

Aaron Schobel (94), one of the Bills all-time most productive players, may never even see a snap in it while Aaron Maybin (58), coming off a disappointing rookie season to say the least, looks poised to breakout in a starting gig.

So how will the depth chart shake out when the dust settles? I’ll give you a look at how I think everything will go down.
